Due to reasons beyond my control, I need to be out of my house for 24-36 hours. To keep things on a positive note, I will focus on the great opportunity this presents for excitement and adventure.
Having just returned to full time classes, I thought to myself; “Self, what can i do for 24-36 hours that costs no money?” Then I waited for inspiration. None came, so I began to look for low cost alternatives.
It is February here, and generally speaking the weather in February is not merely cold, but deadly. However, this week is unseasonably warm, with daytime temperatures clocking in around negative two degrees centigrade (-2C). Not camping weather by most peoples standards, but for locals this is balmy. In another stroke of luck, the sky is clear, and the moon will be mostly full.
Thus the idea slowly fermented from a day outdoors, to a short trip north for 36 hours of snowshoeing and winter camping. I did a quick gear check, and although my kit is made for three seasons, I know I can improvise to make it work. Is it going to be comfortable? Ehhh… maybe?? Will it be survivable? Certainly!
The camera gear is coming along, so lets hope for some wildlife encounters!!
