Water Treatment

When planning an outdoor adventure it is important to understand what the risks are and how best to prepare for them. Water purification is a good example of a situation where education and preparation can make the difference between the success and failure of an expedition. Even the most pristine looking water source can contain pathogens, and with the expansion of intensive human related activity the risks only increase. It is highly recommended that anyone spending a significant amount of time in the back country do some research and learn the basics of water purification.

GearsSkeptic is a youtube channel that does a very nice job of analyzing the topic of water treatment. On the channel there is a 6 part series covering the many aspects of water treatment, and why it is so vital to success and long term health. The videos require a significant investment of time, but (for me at least) it has been a good investment.
