I think everyone should know how to purify water. Next to oxygen, I cannot think of any single thing that is more essential to human life. Without clean drinking water a person can survive only a few days.
Some time ago I wrote a post about water purification in the outdoor environment. That post relies heavily upon the excellent work of Gearskeptic over on his youtube channel. His entire series on water purification is an excellent educational tool for anyone interested. Although it is aimed primarily at the hiker and outdoors person, the knowledge provided is top notch.
Lets all hope that we never find ourselves in a situation where water purification knowledge equates to survival.
