It’s Friday, and the writers are restless. After reading another response to the daily prompt, I too have decided to raise the flag of rebellion. Although I listen to podcasts (periodically) I am not going to answer the prompt. At least not directly.
One of the things that I enjoy about audio material is that it can be consumed while doing other things. When I was a professional driver I would listen to audio books on a daily basis. The genre of choice was varied. Personal development, science fiction, fantasy, and non-fiction were all on heavy rotation.
I look back at this period and see how incredibly beneficial it was to me. The job had its share of challenges, but ultimately I had six hours a day to learn. It was like being paid to engage in self improvement. I learned so much over that four year period. I don’t exactly miss it, but I am certainly grateful.
My suggestion is this. If you regularly engage in tasks that are of low cognitive demand, try adding audio learning to your day. Never in history has it been easier. In Canada any public library can provide an audio book application for your phone. With a member card you can access online audio books, and listen at your convenience for free. The selection is pretty good – and generally the information is of higher quality.
But hey, feel free to consume the newest hot take from your favorite ideologue. Just don’t ask me to recommend any!
