I grew up on the Canadian prairies in a family that had worked the land for generations. Over time some of my family began to find and collect indigenous artifacts that were discovered while working the land.
Some of my fondest childhood memories are of afternoons spend walking the fields looking for arrowheads with my father. Dad had a deep fascination with the history and culture of indigenous peoples that grew with his collection. Over the years he developed a great deal of knowledge about where, when and how to find artifacts. He imparted this knowledge to me as a child before we left the farm for the city.
The places we went, and the conditions that helped us find artifacts no longer exist as they did. Now there are only the memories, and a couple of cherished pieces in the family collection.
Of all the things I have found and kept the most interesting must be artifacts.
