Stillness

Daily writing prompt
Are you more of a night or morning person?

For me it is less about light and more about peace.

In the wild I am very much a morning person. I love to rise with the birds, build a fire, and get the coffee on. Every morning I wake up excited by the prospect of a new day.

Off the grid you need to be efficient in your time use, and once dark settles in you had better have the daily tasks taken care of. You only need to set up a tent in the dark once to know you never want to do it again.

The converse is true in the city for me. I find mass conglomerations of people to be unsettling. The omnipresent hum of business as usual is distracting. It seeps into my pores and steals away my peace. Unlike my time in the wild, I am often irritated by the most trivial of things.

One way to beat the noise and distractions of the city is to get up very early. There is something inspiring about being up before dawn. I love to watch a new sun rise with a steaming mug of coffee.

Its just everything that comes after sunrise that I am not a huge fan of – in the city at least. I think in the end I just enjoy the stillness.
