My answer would have been much different five years ago. I would have been able to lay out a pretty detailed map. Allot has changed since then. I have changed, but more that that, the world has changed.
As I reach well into middle age I have no career aspirations. I would be happy to retire, but that is not something that will likely be possible. As things are I may work until the day I die. Not out of joy, but out of necessity. With this in mind I have chosen two fields that I hope will be accessible to me for years to come. Writing and horticulture.
It seems a nice mix. I write to address my creative and intellectual interests, and garden for access to nature and physical exercise. I hope that these two pursuits will also allow me to do the other things that bring me joy.
