Autophagy – The Devouring of Self

I have used fasting as a way to manage and improve my health for years. I began with intermittent fasting, and later implemented longer fasts. The long fasts are usually called water fasts because you eliminate all food and drink from your diet except water.

While there are many benefits associated with intermittent fasting, there are also some key differences between the short and long fasts. One such difference is the process of autophagy which begins approximately after 24 – 36 hours of fasting.
