My Favorite!

Daily writing prompt
Who are your current most favorite people?

I still remember going to visit my grandparents as a young child. Their home was so nice, and they were both kind and generous. When it was time for me to go my grandmother would always come over and give me a big hug, sneak a five dollar bill into my hand and whisper in my ear “Don’t tell anyone else, but you are our favorite.” It is hard to express how much than meant to me, especially in troubled times.

Like my grandparents, those I would label “favorites” would likely be the people who are closest to me. They are truly the most important, and I think it is essential to remember that, and to express to them how much I appreciate their constant presence. On a more superficial level the answer is longer.

I have never been one to embrace the idea of fandom, but if pushed to choose a public figure who I believe is doing good work I might come up with someone like George Stoumboulopoulos. To me he is a good representation of gen-x in Canada. As a cultural and political commentator I really enjoy his work.

When it comes to the arts, I cannot ignore the impact of Banksy. The work is a prefect and cutting reflection of our era. Moreover, the aura of mystique and anonymity is refreshing in a time of celebrity worship and rampant narcissism.

As a health nut I am always on the lookout for passionate and informed voices. I recently found a Florida based cardiologist who is speaking about alternative treatments for heart disease and diabetes. It is really encouraging to see alternative diet and exercise based treatments entering into the mainstream medical discourse. As such, I would recommend Dr. Pradip Jamnadas to anyone. He is clearly excited about the good news he is sharing.

Truthfully there are many other public figures that I find helpful or enjoyable. Streamers, musicians, artists – as a creative person the list is long and ever shifting.

Of course, as a writer I also have my muse. “Who is it you ask?” Perhaps, my dear reader, it is you? But wait, I would never share something so sacred as the identity of my secret muse. Not even she knows, though I do occasionally entertain the idea of a confession.

Alas, I fear the spell might shatter under such crude attempts – for who am I to give voice to spheres ethereal.

Stay Wild!
